To all the subscribers and visitors, THANK YOU for reading and sharing Analyzing Good Businesses!
Let’s Recap the Year
Like many other newsletters, 2021 was a good year for Analyzing Good Business. This newsletter started the year at ~700 free subscribers, reached ~2k by early July and will end the year above 3.2k. Almost all of that growth has been because of Twitter (and that one time the issue on Veeva Systems got posted on Reddit). It goes to show the power of the FinTwit community.
I published 25 issues this year, at a pace of one write-up every two weeks. Since the subscriber base and my Twitter following increased throughout the year, the most read issues are the recent ones for the most part. However, there are two that stand out from the above average engagement from FinTwit and these are the issues on Alimentation Couche-Tard from May and the latest issue on Copart.
Changes Coming in 2022
When I started this newsletter in July 2020, I challenged myself to read and learn about businesses that I find interesting for at least a year. I kept going at a pace which kept me busy many nights and weekends. Given that the pandemic was in full swing when I started, writing consistently on schedule was a great way to stay busy and focused.
While AGB has been well received beyond my initial expectations, I think focusing most of my time on creating long-form content led me to miss out on a few opportunities to connect more with others within the FinTwit community.
So next year, I will be changing the schedule to write every 3 weeks (instead of 2), which implies that there will be 16-17 issues published next year (instead of 25). The first issue of 2022 will be posted on January 17th at 1pm ET.
With the extra time this year, I plan to:
Engage more with other investors,
Experiment with additional short-form write-ups (maybe recaps, updates or general market commentary), and
Probably most importantly, try to be more active on Twitter.
Favorite Write-Ups
To end the recap, I’d like to share my favorite AGB write-ups from the year (yes, I re-read all of them many times over). Here they are:
HEICO (HEI/HEI-A) - The Berkshire Hathaway of Aerospace
American Tower (AMT) - The Tower of Power
Veeva Systems (VEEV) - Best in Class Efficiency and Net Retention
Alimentation Couche-Tard (ATD-B/A.TO) - Acquire then Improve
Five Below (FIVE) - The King of Unit Economics
Pool Corp (POOL) - Share Gainer in Scale Advantaged Industry
Happy new year, I love the writeups, keep it up! Would love to learn your research process as well!
